Islamic rites of passage
The father of the newborn is usually the one who will recite the azan (call to prayer) into the baby's ear.
The first and most important rite of passage for a Muslim is the azan (call to prayer) that is recited into a newborn's ear. Another important rite of passage for Muslim boys is circumcision, which is performed before boys reach puberty. Marriage is considered as a prophetic tradition or sunnah, and thus Muslims consider marriage to be a praiseworthy undertaking that will increase the size of the ummah (Muslim community). It is also the duty of a Muslim to attend the funeral of another Muslim and perform the special prayer for the dead.
