Sama-Bajau, Murutic and Malayic languages of Sabah

Richard Brewis

The next most widely spoken languages in Sabah, after the Dusunic languages, are those from the Murutic and Sama-Bajau language groups. As many as thirteen Murutic languages are spoken by inland peoples, and six Sama-Bajau languages by mainly Muslim groups along the east and west coasts. Malayic first language speakers include Ibans, originally from Sarawak, and speakers of four distinct Malay dialects.
