Rarer forms of traditional Malay poetry
Nazam Nabi Muhammad (Nazam of Prophet Muhammad) recounts the life of the Prophet and is written in an attractive style.
In addition to the mantera, pantun and syair, there are several less well known traditional Malay poetic forms. These include the seloka, talibun, gurindam, teromba and nazam. With the exception of teromba, which is still used by at least one dialect group, these forms have to some extent fallen out of favour. All of the forms are primarily oral, apart from nazam, and are composed for different purposes, ranging from entertainment to recording of law.
