By 1983 the modern Malay spelling Sepuluh was used instead of Sa-Puloh.

The national language policy has resulted in government administration being conducted almost entirely in Malay. In the education system, on the other hand, while Malay instruction is compulsory, it is not the medium of instruction in all schools, and there is a policy to promote the learning of other languages. English remains the de facto language of commerce, but has largely been replaced by Malay in the courtroom.
