Shared influences have led to similarities between Sabah oral traditions and those elsewhere in the region. This is apparent from the numerous folk tales and legends, such as creation myths, preserved by the various Sabah ethnic groups. This oral literature is recited on numerous occasions, including ceremonies conducted by priestesses, who combine the roles of ritual specialist, faith healer and spirit medium.
