Language in the broadcast media
The multiethnic nature of the Malaysian population has posed a challenge to broadcasters since the early 20th century. Broadcast language policy and practice have evolved from amateur radio transmissions during the colonial British era, through the wartime propaganda of the Japanese Occupation, and the national language policies of Independence and the Formation of Malaysia, to the less stringent contemporary policies. Language use continues to evolve in the face of new technology and an ever widening range of audience choices.
