Aslian: characteristics and usage
The grammar and vocabulary of the Aslian languages are as rich, subtle and elaborate as those of other languages. They all possess a larger number of phonemes—meaningfully distinctive sounds—than Malay, and employ sophisticated grammar. While the languages lack an indigenous written tradition, efforts have been made to record and preserve them. The languages are used to a limited extent in the media, and education in the Semai language has been introduced in a small number of schools.
