Randai
The Minangkabau Diaspora beyond Sumatra has resulted in Minangkabau settlements being established in various parts of Southeast Asia, including Malaysia.
Randai is a form of dance theatre of the Minangkabau people of Negeri Sembilan. It fuses the silat art of self-defence, stylized dance, songs and plays based on an extensive traditional storytelling repertoire. The silat dance is the conveyance for the acting, dancing and storytelling. This dance theatre form illustrates the continuing existence of independent cultural spaces for expressing Malaysia's rich ethnic diversity.
