The P. Ramlee era

The Malay film industry began in 1933, and in the decades since there have been several periods marked by outstanding contributions by one or more personalities. During one such peak period—1950s–60s—one name stood out: P. Ramlee. This artiste extraordinaire was multi-talented; wearing alternately the hats of singer, composer, lyricist, actor, playwright, director and producer, and is, in fact, regarded as the Malaysian film industry's most outstanding personality.
