Islam is believed to have entered the Malay Peninsula at various satges between the early 14th and 16th centuries. Middle Eastern influence predates the arrival of Islam. The impact of Islam was more spectacular than that of previous major religions that came into Southeast Asia. Together with Middle Eastern cultural aspects, Islam made inroads into all fields of life and cast its influence on Malaysia's performing arts.
