The ancient art of shadow puppet play has been in existence for over two millennia, finding its greatest concentration in Southeast Asia. Centuries of cross-cultural exchanges in the region have led to its localized reworking, resulting in a flowering of styles. The Malaysian shadow puppet play, Wayang Kulit, is essentially an adaptation of regional styles into those that are unique to this country.
