INTRODUCTION
Some folk traditions such as the Wayang Kulit are being maintained, with adaptation to changing social circumstances.
Over the past two millennia or more, indigenous elements as well as foreign influences from both the East and the West have shaped and reshaped the culture of Malaysia. These influences reached the Malay Peninsula from various cultural regions—the Middle and Near East, South Asia, East Asia as well as from within Southeast Asia. Furthermore, they came from almost all major Asian religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Chinese folk religions and Islam.
