Dances of Sabah and Sarawak
Melanau welcome dance at Kampung Sok.
Like the Orang Asli of Peninsula Malaysia, the indigenous peoples of the East Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak own some of the oldest dance traditions. They reflect the diverse ethnic communities of the land and are rooted in the ritualism and spiritualism of their ancient animistic beliefs. These traditions are still observed despite borrowing from other dance cultures.
