Sharing revenue and economic development
Separate British Residential Systems in Perak, Selangor, Pahang and Negeri Sembilan caused unequal growth of the economy and population in those states, depending upon the natural resources of each state and the capability of the individual Residents. With the formation of the Federated Malay States (FMS) in 1896, federal regulations enabled the central government to coordinate economic developments throughout the federation. The period between 1896 and 1941 saw the growth of export crops and the development of infrastructure.
