The Malay kerajaan

The Malay kerajaan (monarchy) was a political structure in which the ruler, who was vested with supernatural majesty (daulat), was the source of dignity and bestower of high office to members of the Malay ruling class of his state and the embodiment of power and collective welfare to the general body of his subjects. The essential role of the ruler was symbolic and ceremonial, not executive. However, with economic development and British intervention in the l9th century the traditional structure of the Malay kerajaan underwent many changes.
