Cheah Boon Kheng was Professor of History at Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang until his retirement in 1994. Since his retirement he has taken up visiting fellowships in Singapore, Canberra and at USM. He is the author of several books including Red Star Over Malaya (1983), The Peasant Robbers of Kedah: Historical and Folk Perceptions (1988) and Malaysia: The Making of a Nation (2002). He is currently Visiting Professor at the USM’s School of Humanities on a research and publication project.
