Starfish and sea cucumbers
Starfish move and feed—and flip over—with the assistance of hundreds of tiny suckered feet.
Starfish and sea cucumbers belong to a group of marine animals called echinoderms which form a large and important component of sea bed organisms. Apart from starfish (Asteroidea) and sea cucumbers (Holothuroidea), the group also includes feather stars (Crinoidea), sea urchins (Echinoidea) and brittle stars (Ophiuroidea). Most of these organisms live at the bottom of the sea and are distributed from the shallow intertidal areas to the deep ocean floors. In Malaysia, starfish and sea cucumbers are mainly found on coral reefs.
