Sea snakes
Unlike the tail of a land snake, the tail of a sea snake is flattened at the tip. This paddle-shaped tail is and adaptation for swimming.
Sea snakes belong to the family Hydrophiidae. Except for the yellow-bellied sea snake (Pelamis platurus), found only in the warmer parts of the Indo-Pacific region, sea snakes occur in coastal waters from the Persian Gulf eastward to Japan, Australia and Polynesia. Of the 50 species worldwide, 22 are found in Malaysia. All sea snakes are poisonous and some are deadly.
