Sea level changes
Apart from sea level changes due to tides, the mean level of the sea fluctuates, but because of the slow rate at which this occurs, the changes cannot be observed in a human lifetime. On a geological timescale, however, the sea level has recorded innumerable rises and falls. Information on the fluctuating sea has been gathered from marine sediments millions of years old. In Malaysia, there is much evidence from the most recent sea level rise, the maximum Holocene transgression, which occurred about 5,000 years ago.
