Hermit crab

The hermit crab remains in the water or in the surf. It can also retract into its shell to conserve water.

Sandy beaches and rocky shores are two common ecosystems found along Malaysia's extensive coastline. In these harsh habitats, the environmental forces fluctuate from one extreme to another, submerging and exposing the ecosystems once, and sometimes twice, daily. Besides supporting a variety of animals and plants which have adapted to the forces of nature, beaches and shores also play a vital role in protecting the hinterland from flooding and wind erosion.
