Plankton
Plankton are generally tiny organisms with limited locomotive ability which live in natural bodies of water. Plant plankton (phytoplankton) and animal plankton (zooplankton) are vital organisms as they form the basis of the food chain in the sea. Many of the world's numerous species of plankton exist in the Malaysian seas. Phytoplankton live in the surface waters where they can photosynthesize, while the larger zooplankton are found throughout the water column. Since plankton provide food for fish and other marine organisms, as well as for each other, phytoplankton is now artificially cultured as feed for fish and prawns.
