The Matang Mangroves
The Matang mangroves in Perak are among the best managed in the world. In 1998, Matang won the Green Award, given by the Ministry of Primary Industries Malaysia, for the best managed forest in Peninsular Malaysia. The management success is reflected in the extent of quality timber producing forests as well as a strong conservation programme. Matang not only supports a flourishing fishing industry but efforts have also been made to promote education and ecotourism.
