Structure of a jellyfish

Jellyfish are an important fisheries resource in Malaysia where they are considered a delicacy. The seas harbour more than 100 species, ranging in size from a small ball to an umbrella. They are most commonly found in inshore waters and, in response to changing light levels, have the ability to move vertically through the water column. About 90 per cent of the annual jellyfish landings—some 11 000 tons—are made in Sarawak. The state also exports the greatest amount of processed jellyfish, valued at RM15 million per annum.
