Shown here is the initial stage of the mating ritual. Starting with the large claw in front of its face, the crab then swings it back to an open position before rotating it up and down.

Crabs belong to the group crustaceans, which are the most common creatures of the sea. Many species of crabs are found on the Malaysian seashore. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and range from a few millimetres to 20 centimetres in diameter. Some crabs prefer sand substrates, while others live in mud or sand-mud environments. A few species of marine crabs are adapted to dry land and may be seen in burrows well above the high tide mark.
