Anchovies
The anchovy or ikan bilis is a highly popular food item in the Malaysian diet.
Anchovies, locally known as ikan bilis, are a popular fish with Malaysians. They form a small but significant percentage of the total marine catch in Malaysia. Anchovy fishing is most highly developed on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, where it is done by purse seine boats. Almost all anchovies in Malaysia are sold in a salted and dried form. Dried anchovy fillets have become popular abroad and demand is expected to increase in the future.
