The 1970s marked a fresh beginning for Malaysia, the nation having recuperated from the Emergency period, armed confrontation with Indonesia and the pressures of interracial conflict during the late 1960s. Many building designs of the 1970s and 1980s began to show an enthusiasm and optimism in spirit, reflecting attempts by architects of the time to develop a 'new' architecture for Malaysia.
