Srivijaya

Nik Hassan Shuhaimi Nik Abdul Rahman

In the 7th century CE, the appearance of numerous inscriptions in South Sumatra signalled the birth of Srivijaya, the first great Indonesian kingdom, which attained dominance over the Strait of Melaka, the main artery of maritime trade between India and China, and controlled the port kingdoms of both the Malay Peninsula and much of Sumatra. Srivijaya was the paramount power in the region until its decline in the 11th century.
