The location of Gangga Nagara, an ancient kingdom mentioned in the Sejarah Melayu—the court annals of the 15th-century Melaka Sultanate—has long been the subject of historical debate. Various sites have been suggested, including Beruas in Perak and the Bujang Valley in Kedah. However, historians now agree that Kedah was the ancient kingdom of Kadaram, and while the early Islamic settlement at Beruas is believed to be the last capital of Gangga Nagara, the Kinta Valley in Perak is now being considered as the earlier site of this lost kingdom on account of several Buddhist bronzes which have been found there.
