Earthenware
Although much of the Neolithic earthenware excavated at Bukit Tengku Lembu, Perlis, comprised fragments, enough shards were found to enable the reconstruction of this goblet.
In the development of human culture, the discovery of how to produce earthenware from clay was one of humanity's first major artistic and scientific innovations. Earthenware appeared in prehistoric Malaysia when Neolithic cave dwellers began the shift from a hunting and gathering lifestyle to one based more on agriculture. Pottery vessels were not only needed to store and carry food and liquids, but were also utilized in religious rituals and beliefs. In prehistoric burials, earthenware was used as both grave goods and as jars in secondary burials.
