Beruas

Nik Hassan Shuhaimi Nik Abdul Rahman

Ancient royal graves at Beruas in southwestern Perak are tangible evidence of a 15th–16th century Islamic kingdom, while documentary accounts confirm that during this time Beruas was the paramount power of Perak. On account of its geographical situation—mentioned in the Sejarah Melayu (Malay Annals)—Beruas has long been the favoured site of the legendary Gangga Nagara, an earlier Indianized kingdom. However, archaeologists have so far failed to find any substantial evidence in support of this theory.
