Adaptation to cave environments

Ipoi Datan

Limestone massifs pitted with caves and rock shelters are scattered throughout the Malaysian rainforests. Findings have revealed that people have frequented them from as early as 40,000 years ago until comparatively recently. The bulk of Malaysian archaeological evidence has been found in these cave sites as they offer a much more conducive environment for preservation than do open sites which are exposed to the degradations of the equatorial climate.
