Waterbirds

Siti Hawa bt Yatim

Waterbirds comprise a large number of families occupying the wetlands of Malaysia. Although most are found in mangroves and mud flats on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia and in Sabah and Sarawak, others are found near bodies of fresh water. More than half of Malaysia's 156 species of waterbirds (including 12 duck species) are migratory birds, some of which stay for several months; others stop only briefly.
