Ticks and mites
Ticks and mites have a cosmopolitan distribution and are found in terrestrial, aquatic and marine habitats. The exact number of species in Malaysia is not known, but at least 38 species of ticks have been identified, and there are about 500 recorded species of mites. However, the number of undescribed mite species may be 20 times this number. The majority of ticks and mites have no direct association with man, but some species affect man, his domestic animals and cultivated crops.
