Stick and leaf insects
Of the more than 2,500 species of stick and leaf insects recorded worldwide (with many more awaiting discovery), probably 200-250 species of these amazing insects inhabit the rainforests of Malaysia. They include the stick insect Phobaeticus kirbyi, renowned as the longest insect in the world (up to 30 centimetres) and the most famous of phasmids, the leaf insects of the genus Phyllium, sometimes called 'moving leaves'.
