Pigeons and doves
Of the world's 290 pigeon and dove species which form the family Columbidae, Malaysia has only 26 species, all residents, divided into three groups: green pigeons (12 species of small, brightly coloured arboreal birds), ground doves (10 species of highly iridescent birds usually found on the ground) and imperial pigeons (4 species of large, arboreal birds with a metallic sheen).
