The pangolin and porcupines
Common porcupine (Hystrix brachyura)
Malaysia has one species of pangolin and four porcupines. Although these nocturnal animals are totally unrelated, both have protective modified features as defensive weapons against predators. The pangolin belongs to the family Manidae of the order Pholidota and the porcupines to the family Hystricidae of the order Rodentia.
