Because of its tropical climate, Malaysia is a conducive breeding ground for various mosquito species. Although about 434 species of mosquitoes have been found in the country, only about 10 per cent of them are involved in the transmission of diseases. Important genera include Aedes, Anopheles, Culex and Mansonia.
