All the three groups of Malaysian monkeysthe macaques, the leaf monkeys (langurs) as well as the very distinctive proboscis monkey of Sabah and Sarawakbelong to the family Cercopithecidae. There are also four small anthropoid apes, the gibbons, members of the family Hylobatidae. Two nocturnal arboreal primates are the slow loris and the only Malaysian forest 'gremlin', the western tarsier, which is found only in Sabah and Sarawak.
