Grasshopper and cricket

When seen together, as here, the short antennae and barely developed ovipositor of the grasshopper (left) contrast sharply with the long antennae and long ovipositor of the cricket (right).

In many countries, the presence of grasshoppers and crickets is feared because they are the cause of massive damage to crops, which can lead to famine. In Malaysia, however, these insects are more noted for their songs and their mimicry than for the damage they inflict.
