The elephant, the tapir and the rhinoceros

Mohd Khan bin Momin Khan

Elephants

In the 19th century, elephants were used for transport by sultans and nobility of the northern states of the Malay Peninsula

At first glance, the elephant, rhinoceros and tapir of the Malaysian rainforests seem to have little in common. However, a closer look reveals a number of similarities. All are ancient animals well camouflaged for their life in the rainforest, and all three animals are herbivores. The rhinoceros and tapir are both odd-toed ungulates belonging to the order Perissodactyla. The elephant and the tapir both have trunks, though the elephant's is much longer than that of the tapir.
