Dragonflies and damselflies
The term 'dragonflies' is often used to refer to both dragonflies and damselflies, which together form the order Odonata; dragonflies form the suborder Anisoptera, and damselflies the suborder Zygoptera. There are at least 220 species of dragonflies and damselflies in Peninsular Malaysia alone. No compilation of Sabah and Sarawak odonates has been made, although 259 species were documented in the whole island of Borneo in 1954.
