Cockroaches, houseflies and blowflies
Despite its name American cockroach (Periplaneta americana), one of the cosmopolitan species which has spread throughout the world, originated from Africa.
In Malaysia, there are seven species of cockroaches commonly found in homes and buildings: the American, German, brown, Australian, harlequin, brown-banded and lobster cockroaches. The American cockroach is the predominant species in homes, while the German cockroach is a serious pest in hotels and food preparation industries. Houseflies and blowflies are not as numerous in Malaysia as in many other tropical countries, perhaps because there is not a marked dry season.
