Malaysia is home to several hundred of the 9,000-10,000 ant species found throughout the world, some well known for the ferocity of their sting. Of the 2,300 species of termites in the world, nearly 200 have been recorded in Malaysia. These include serious attackers of plantation crops as well as those which destroy wooden structures.
