Spices
Spices, derived from the Latin word species, meaning 'an article of special value', were traded as luxury goods in ancient and medieval times, and are the taste of the Orient. Many of the major spices originated in the East, but some later became established in other regions. Spices have little or no nutritional value, but their exotic aromas, distinct flavours, enhancing colours and healing properties have been extensively exploited for culinary, medicinal and other purposes throughout Malaysia.
