Rapid urban and industrial development in Malaysia has brought various environmental problems in its wake. But as forests and agricultural plantations are cleared to make way for concrete jungles, a new complement of plants adapted to city conditions—some wild, others introduced by man—are springing up. Wayside trees and shrubs are being planted, and parks and gardens developed to create a more aesthetic urban landscape.
