Native ornamental plants
There are over 10,000 species of native flowering plants in Malaysia, ranging from small shrubs to giant trees. Some have been transplanted from the forest to an urban setting, where they are grown as ornamentals, valued for the shade they provide and their beautifully coloured and scented flowers. These native ornamentals line the avenues of towns and cities, and decorate both public and private gardens. Previously overlooked in favour of introduced species, native species are gaining popularity as efforts are made to encourage their use.
