Man-made vegetation

E. Soepadmo

Kuala Lumpur

The conversion of Malaysia's forests and other natural habitats into land for agriculture, mining, industrial purposes and urban development has resulted in the creation of various types of man-made vegetation. These are less complex in structure and poorer in species composition than natural vegetation, but nevertheless contribute towards the diversity and uniqueness of Malaysia's flora. Examples of man-made vegetation are vegetation in urban areas, village orchards and gardens, paddy fields and rubber, oil palm and tea plantations.
