Mnagroves

'Mangrove' is the name for the plant community that colonizes the muddy shores of sheltered coasts and river estuaries. A mangrove forest is divided into three vegetation zones, and is home to plant species with unique adaptive features, such as pneumatophores, or breathing roots. Once abundant in Malaysia, much of the area covered by mangroves has been converted into land for other uses. Nonetheless, mangroves continue to be important to the country's fishing and timber industries.
