Gnetum
Gnetum is a tropical genus consisting mostly of woody climbers, with a few trees and shrubs. This genus is classified as a unique plant group and placed in its own family, the Gnetaceae, or gnetoid family. There are about 30 species in the tropical lowlands of the world, from northeastern South America, tropical West Africa, south China to Southeast Asia. In Malaysia, 15 species are found in rainforests below 1800 metres. The most well known is belinjau or melinjau (G. gnemon var. gnemon), which is the only tree species of this genus in the country.
