Gingers

A diverse and fascinating group of perennial herbs, gingers, or the Zingiberaceae, are represented throughout the tropical and subtropical regions, but are mainly Asiatic in distribution. Of the 50 genera and 1,500 species known in the world, at least 20 genera and 288 species are found in Malaysia. Gingers are characterized by their aromatic parts, and are used as spices, made into condiments, essential oils and medicine, and grown as ornamentals.

Peacock ginger

A small plant, the peacock ginger is suitable for growing in pots. It is also cultivated in rock gardens.
